Wow that's a tough test. It's what, 1/4 of the frontal width? Not even sure I should have watched that, considering I want to get one in a few months...

Why do they have to crash test the GTI, can't they just use a normal golf, since it's just a golf with go fast parts on it.

just dont run into any non-deformable barriers with a tiny part of the car.

Different emissions equipment and controls, different lights, different brakes, etc. Every model of a vehicle sold (I think) needs crash testing. This is why the Nissan GT-Rs imported a decade-or-so ago were found non-legal for US roads - the import company had tested a GTS-T (or some other non-GT-R variant) and claimed the vehicles were similar enough, but did not in-fact crash test a Skyline GT-R.

To be fair, most cars on the road don't do very well on this test.

Another car that has the battery flying out.

Less than that, it's basically hitting a concrete bollard at speed on the corner of the car.

Always hit crap head on, there's more crash structure to deform that way.

The small overlap test basically was "Everyone is 5 staring the normal offset test, so lets purposely make it harder, without any respect to how cars tend to crash in the real world."

It does quite well. Just look at this much larger car that people perceive as 'safe'.

It's a safety feature. Less chance of an electrical spark starting a fire after the accident if the battery is in a hedge down the street.

How kind is El_Uly making videos crashing cars on purpose so he can improve the security in them for the safety of all of us.
